Media Autobiography

With the eight types of mass media we are studying in this class, I chose to rate, as well as discuss, my relationship with each of them from the ones I use the least to the ones I use practically on a daily basis.

Magazines are the one type of mass media I hardly ever use. If I remember correctly, the last time I picked up a magazine was when I last went to the doctors office and I was waiting in the lobby or waiting room until my name was called. I honestly don’t have that much interest in magazines, which is a reason why I never subscribed to any, however I do find it to be very entertaining and a good source of media to pass the time by.

Audio. Thinking back to the time I had a CD player or even the last time a bought a CD must’ve been about 10 years ago! I absolutely love music! But with the kind of technology we have now where you can download a song on your phone or online… I hardly even go down the aisle with them anymore. However, my family in the Philippines, love it when we send them CDs! That’s pretty much where all of the ones I owned went!

Newspapers. I had a debate between which one I used the most or at least currently, compared to Audio, and I’d like to say that I was never the type of person to sit down and open up a newspaper and start reading about what was going on in the world, especially on a big black and white newspaper. However, I took a business law class recently and we had to find articles about businesses that related to the law or laws that reflected businesses and I started reading The Wall Street Journal more and more, even just out of curiosity.

Books. I absolutely love having a good book to read. I don’t read as often as I used to, or even as much as i’d like, however I do find myself in a bookstore sometimes looking for a new book to read! I remember way back in elementary school we had SSR, I think it stood for sustained silent reading?

Television used to be an everyday thing for me. Growing up I would watch TV before school and after school, then wake up early on the weekends and basically have my eyes glued to the screen. As I got older I didn’t have much time to spend watching TV, and now I don’t even have cable anymore! I still have a TV in my room, but now I just binge watch Netflix whenever I get the chance!

Radio. I’d like to say I use the radio more often now. On my way to school, on my way to work, on my way home.. I just turn on the radio in the car and even if its just to have some background noise, I turn it on. Especially in the morning, when majority of the stations have people talking, is usually a good way to start my day. I also enjoy listening to Pandora Radio or iTunes Radio, mostly because you can choose a station and it will just continue to play songs related to the type of genre you like continuously.

Movies was actually something I wanted to have a career in. Of course my awkwardness and kind of shy-self would not have worked out so well. I love watching all sorts of different movie genres and actually I go almost every Tuesday!!! All day long at century theaters, movie tickets are $6.50!!!! ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!

Internet. What would I do without internet? It has become such a big part of my life and sad thing is I don’t know what I would do without it anymore. I feel like I rely so much on the internet and everything I do now requires to have internet connection. Whether its connecting to wi-fi to check my schedule and daily plans for work or doing research and submitting a paper for school online. I remember when I had to use the internet back then, we had to connect it through the phone line and if I remember correctly it was AOL and it would make like a dial tone sound while it was connecting, but it took forever! Now things are just so much more convenient and easy to hook up and connect, its just something I use on a daily basis now.
